Female Solo Traveler At Barcelona (Based On My Own Experience)

Hola!

This time feel like want to share my experience in English. 😀😀 Thanks to Facebook who keep remind me of my old photos, I wanted to tell you about my own experience back in 2012 when I did my solo traveler to Barcelona, Spain. I know its been so late, but sometimes I just feel so lazy to write a long blog. But now I have the mood to write it down. 😆

Back in 2012, I was working at Singapore. And I wanted to visited my sister who lived at Holland, particularly at Groningen (from Schiphol airport its around 2 to 2.5 hours journey by train).

I made some research before deciding which other cities to visit after I left Groningen. Among Europe cities, I really wish to visit Lisbon at Portugal or Barcelona at Spain. I already search everything to do at Lisbon and Barcelona. But due to my limited annual leave, I can only choose 1 city to visit. End up I chose Barcelona. Why? Its simply because long time ago I watched this Meteor Garden 2 series and I fell in love with Barcelona. 😅😅 Silly? Yes, you may think so. 🙈🙈 Despite the reviews I saw online that keep saying beware of pickpockets and my own concern about female traveling alone, but deep inside my heart, I really want to visit Barcelona. And so Barcelona will be my choice! 😃😃

So I took KLM from Singapore to Amsterdam (around 13 hours). Btw, I do my trip alone since that time I haven't met my husband 😆😆 The journey was smooth, once I arrived at Schiphol, I faster buy the train ticket to Groningen and spent another 2 hours+ journey. The most difficult part (for me) was to carry my heavy luggage (a lot of food to give my sister 😆). Others than that nothing since Holland people can speak fluent English (YAY to that!).

I only spent around 5 days at Groningen before left to Barcelona (I spent 3 days 2 night there). I took the earliest train from Groningen to Schiphol and after that catch my afternoon flight to Barcelona. It was a nervous journey to travel alone overseas. But I already did half journey alone (from Singapore to Holland), and so far I felt OK. So yeahh...

Btw, while at Barcelona, I stayed at Hotel Sagrada Familia. I chose this hotel because my main reason come to Barcelona is to visit Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell. The hotel just 5 minutes away from the church.

Back to Barcelona airport, I already arranged airport transport from the hotel (with additional fee). After put down all my luggage, I straight away go to Sagrada Familia. And the feeling was SUPERB! 💙💙 I almost cried when I finally see Sagrada Familia with my own eyes. I couldn't believe what I do to visit this beautiful church. Traveled half way across the globe, ALONE. And here I am! At Barcelona! And one of my dream was fulfilled.

Sagrada Familia, Barcelona

Next day, I took hop and off bus to traveling. This bus stop at most of tourist attractions, so I think it save my trouble (rather than took train). I visited another wish list of mine : Parc Guell. And I was SO SO HAPPYY!! My main concern visit Barcelona is to see Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell. Both already fulfilled. The rest of the place just an additional point for me 😆

I felt so good to travel alone because I can go wherever I want. Nobody to think of and care. I can stop when I feel tired or just stop at the cafe to have drink when I want to. I can eat anything I want and wish.

During that journey, I feel completely safe. Nobody offer me drugs (some comment I saw online said beware of people who will offer you drugs), no pickpockets and the most important think is : it gave me a once in a lifetime experience and courage to be brave. Its something that I will remember for the rest of my life. 💜💛💚

Some tips for female traveler who plan to go alone ; always be alert (with your surroundings), bring your camera and don't forget enjoy the view 💛.

If I have chance and opportunity, without doubt I WILL do it all over again. Since now I'm married, my husband didn't allow me to travel alone 😆. And back in 2013 when me and my husband visited Europe again, we only came to Holland (to visit my sister) and Salzburg, Austria. I still wish I can visit Lisbon in the future 🙏🙏

Till next post.

x 💋
