How To Marry A Malaysian

Hola!

This is a very late post regarding step by step to marry a Malaysian. I'm Indonesian and my husband is Malaysian. Now I'm already married to my Malaysian husband.
Honestly speaking, getting married at KL was very frustrating and tiring process 😕😕 due so many documents need to prepare. Hope this post can help people who want to get marry with a Malaysian. I try to remember every steps and write it down here. FYI, me and my husband aren't Moeslem and this whole process was done at 2015.

STEP 1 : Go to the local Embassy to request for Reference Letter to Register Marriage in Malaysia (Surat Keterangan Untuk Menikah)
Address :
Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia Kuala Lumpur (KBRI KL) No 233. Jalan Tun Razak WP KL 50400
Office Hours :
Mon-Fri : 9 AM - 5 PM
Closed on Sat, Sun, Indonesia & Malaysia public holidays

Document to bring :
From the Non-Malaysian (Indonesian) :
1. Single status letter - obtained from home country local civil registration office, valid for 3 months only after the issuance date
2. Birth certificate (original & photocopy)
3. Indonesian IC (KTP) (original & photocopy)

Fee: RM 70
NOTE :
Both the non Malaysian and Malaysian couple MUST be there at the time of application but during collection, either party can come and collect. Please remember not to dress : no tank tops, no short pants and no slippers. Btw, my late mom-in-law wore shorts and slipper and the security didn't even stop her 😅😅 Maybe they don't bother because the embassy is really really super packed!

STEP 2 : Go to Ministry of Foreign Affairs to endorse the 'Surat Keterangan Untuk Menikah'
Address :
Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia, Marriage and Divorce Division
Level 1, No 20, Persiaran Perdana, Precint 2, Federal Government Administration Centre, 62551, WP Putrajaya

Fee : RM 10
NOTE : Both party need to be present.

STEP 3 : Go to Ministry of Home Affair (to get chop for my Malaysian spouse single letter)
Me and my husband went to this place, just in case in the future when we register our marriage, the officer ask why we never chop the document.
Processing time : same day (less than 1 hour)
Fee : RM 5
NOTE : As the place nearby JPN Putrajaya, I suggest to do this within a day.

STEP 4 : Go to JPN to submit all documents required for Registration of Marriage (ROM)
Address :
Headquarter National Registration Department Malaysia (JPN) Bahagian Perkawinan & Perceraian
No 20, Precint 2, Federal Government Administrative Center, 62100, Putrajaya

2. Malaysian IC/My Kad (original & photocopy)
3. Indonesian passport (original & photocopy of front, latest arrival & visa page)
4. Indonesian  birth certificate (original & photocopy)
5. Passport photo 1 each (non-Malaysian & Malaysian)
6. Malaysian single status letter
7. 'Surat Keterangan Untuk Menikah' endorsed by the Ministry of Foreign Affair (Step 2) - within 6 months validity from the date of issuance from KBRI KL
8. Authorization letter obtained from Immigration (Step 3)
* In my case the officer didn't ask for my husband single status letter, his IC is enough*
NOTE :
Please check again your spouse address register at his/her IC. As that time, I thought I can straight away choose date for our ROM, but the officer told us that I need to go to Kajang JPN! 💣💣💥💥 Because need to follow my husband IC residence state (at Selangor) 💢💢 So the Putrajaya officer will give a seal envelope to the Kajang JPN and reference letter for them. I was super tired because need to go so many places and after I thought the process at last will end, I found out my journey still have long way to go! 😞😭😭

STEP 5 : Go Kajang JPN (Jabatan Perhentian Negara)
Address :
Daerah Hulu Langat, Tingkat 3, Kompleks Perhentian Kajang. Jalan Reko. 43000, Kajang, Selangor.
Office Hours:
Mon - Thu : 8.00 AM - 5.00 PM (Lunch time : 1.00 PM - 2.00 PM)
Fri : 8.00 AM - 5.00 PM (Lunch time : 12.15 PM - 2.45 PM)
Sat - Sun : Closed
Document to bring :
1. Form JPN. KC02 (my advice is to ask JPN officer to give you the original paper, don't download from the internet)
2. Malaysian IC/My Kad (original & photocopy)
3. Indonesian passport (original & photocopy of front, latest arrival & visa page)
4. Indonesian birth certificate (original & photocopy)
5. Household card (KK) (original & photocopy)
6.'Surat Keterangan Untuk Menikah' endorsed by the Ministry of Foreign Affair (Step 2) - within 6 months validity from the date of issuance from KBRI KL.
7. Seal envelope & reference letter issued by Putrajaya JPN
- Again, the officer didn't need my husband single letter, but we bring it anyway just in case they ask for it-

FYI, you can choose to get marry at Kajang JPN or Putrajaya JPN. I choose not to marry at Kajang JPN because the place not so nice and I didn't feel good to marry there. If you choose to marry at JPN Putrajaya, you need to go back there and choose the date there as well. The good news is either you or your spouse can come to choose the date at Putrajaya.
The officer will give you a piece of paper to collect the original document of my single status letter (from KBRI KL). They ask me to come and collect around 3 weeks later (either you or your spouse  can come to collect the original paper). Fee to pay when I come to collect was RM 10.
Processing time : Less than 20 minutes (When I came not so many people queuing).
Fee : FOC

STEP 6 : Back to JPN Putrajaya 😑
Processing time : few hours after all documents are submitted, the officer will call your number back to set the date and time for registration of marriage (not less than 3 weeks). You can choose the date of your own preference. The officer will give us reference letter which we need to bring on the registration day.
Fee : RM 30 - to be paid on the registration day

STEP 7 : Go back to JPN for the Registration of Marriage (ROM)
Documents to bring :
1. Reference letter
2. Malaysian IC/My Kad
3. Indonesian passport
NOTE :
In addition, we need to bring 2 witnesses along with their ICs. All must attend in formal wear. And bring cash RM 30 for the ROM fee.

Its really very tiring process rite!! 😤😤😤 Luckily I already finish doing that and now happily married with my husband 😇😇😇

Good luck and all the best!
