Grab Car & Go-Car Bali Review & Tips
Hola!
Happy New Year 2017 to all of you! So I just came back from my holiday at Indonesia which I spent 10 days (5 days at Jakarta & 5 days at Bali). I would like to gave some review and tips regarding Grab and Go-car. Before I came to Bali, I already make some research regarding Grabcar & Go-car (from Gojek apps). I exclude use Uber at Bali although from my reserach, seems like Uber was more popular at Bali. Some of the reasons were ;
1) Uber didn't have fix price. They only gave you roughly price. For example, from Rp 120,000 to Rp 190,000. While if use Grabcar and Go-car, they will gave you fix price.
2) According from my friends experience, some of the Uber car (I forgot which type), you will have to do share car with strangers as long as they go same direction with you. Example, you alone wanted to go Kuta centre from Sunset Road, and later on on the way, if the driver found someone else heading to same destination (Kuta Centre), the driver will pick up that strangers and so on and so on. Its actually only benefit the driver not the passenger, as the driver will earn more while you as the passengers got none (unless you don't mind sharing). For my case, I don't like to share car with strangers.
3) Another advice I got from my friends, Uber like to raise the price if the place you heading was on traffic jam. While Grab and Go-car, so far (I used both Grab and Go-car before) was save. Few times I used Grab and Go-car during traffic jam, so far they never mark up the price.
So, based on above list, I decided just to look either Grab or Go-car while at Bali. Based on the other tourists review, seems like all Uber, Gojek/Go-car/Grab was banned at Bali (you know why). And while at Bali, I saw a lot of advertisement mentioning about this banned! But some people still keep looking for them, that's why while there's demand, they will keep operating. One of the reason I like about Grab and Go-car, they gave cheaper price compare to others taxi. I know its because they used private car etc, while normal taxi they need to pay for the tax etc, but as a customer if the normal taxi gave good service which equivalent to their higher price, I don't mind to spend more money with normal taxi. And furthermore, I'm not a multimillionaire. I rather save the money for eating good food.✌✌ππ
Cut story short, I took Go-car from Ngurah Rai airport to my hotel at Ubud. It only cost me Rp 160,00 (with 2 hours journey)!! Say WHAAAAAATTTT!!! π±π±π±While airport pick up from hotel cost Rp 350,000, and taxi from airport cost (around) Rp 300,000. Imagine how much I save! ππ While on the way to my hotel, I can feel that the driver not happy (maybe too far distance?) and keep checking his phone ππ. But that's not my fault, if they agreed to take your order, regardless how far it will be, they must know the risk.ππ
While from Ubud to Seminyak, I got price Rp 130,000 for 1.5 hours journey with Grabcar. If I used hotel car service, they charged me Rp 400,000!!!π¨π¨π±π±
Some tips for you for using Grab/Go-car at Bali (according to me):
1) After you got the driver, call them again to ask where to meet.
* Try to meet at the convenient place for the driver. According to some Grab and Go-car drivers that I asked, a lot of driver at Bali a bit afraid to take passenger especially if the place they going was a big hotel or 5 stars hotel and that hotel was very strict of not allowing Uber/Grab/Go-car in. If they got caught the security/pecalang (Balinese local police) will took their cars and the driver need to pay up to Rp 30 million (depending on location) to get back their car. Or sometimes, those security will just take picture of the car and the car plate and post on their own social media for banned Uber/Grab/Go-car (they really had it!). And usually if the driver happened to get caught, they won't take passengers for the next few days or weeks.
* So, please be more considerate to the driver. You want get cheaper price and you also need to think of the driver safety.
2) Try to memorize the driver car type or car plate number.
* And after that, CLOSE YOUR APPLICATION to minimize the risk being caught using Uber/Grab/Go-car. Based on my experience, a lot of time, the front desk staff at my hotel will ask whether I was waiting for the taxi/Uber? And I will say I rent car and I waiting for the driver. And be careful when you speak in English as most Balinese people can speak English. ππ Unless you speak with other foreign language. With memorizing the car plate number, it will save the trouble for us as the customers and for the driver as well.
3) Try to book earlier.
* I happened 2 times need to wait very long time to get both Grab and Go-car. 1st time was when I wanted to leave Ubud to Seminyak. It took more than 1 hour for me to finally got a driver!
* And 2nd time was from Seminyak to airport (took me more than 45 minutes!). Just gave spare time for you to book the taxi, in case you rushing to go to other place.
Seems like Uber/Grab and Go-car at Jakarta was more convenient than at Bali. Because while at Jakarta, I always used Grab and it didn't take long for me to get a driver. FYI, at Jakarta not every time Grab/Go-car will give you cheaper price than normal taxi (especially during peak hours). I happened went from Kelapa Gading to Kemayoran with normal taxi and they cost Rp 40,000, while if I used Grab (during their peak hours) cost me Rp 52,000.
So be smart and hope it helps!
