How to Renew Indonesian Passport in Kuala Lumpur
Hola!
Finally, I finished doing passport renewal at Indonesian Embassy KL. So tiring. I now then just finished and rest awhile. Really want to share my experience this morning. Note : Its going to be a LONG story.
Actually my passport still expired May 2017 but I decided to renew it now because of few things. My Indonesian friend who just renew her passport last month (May 2016) said need almost 1 month to renew her passport.
So the 1st time she came just to submit document and then they will give number and around next 2 weeks she need to come again to take photo taking. Then the next week, she need to come again to take her new passport. In total she need to come 3x. So troublesome! Short story, to prevent all the trouble to renew passport, I decide to renew now.
This morning I went to Indonesian embassy to renew my passport. Remember, the embassy location indeed in the central of KL however no public transportation to reach there. You need to use private car such as car/motorcycle/taxi to reach there 😓😓
My husband drop me at KL Sentral, from there I used LRT and stop at Ampang Park LRT (nearest station from the embassy). But well, although near, you can't just simply walk. After reach Ampang Park LRT, I used taxi and spent RM 7.40. Arrived at embassy at 8.30 AM and ........... the queue was SUPER DUPER DUPER LONG! 😓😓
The queue is no joke!! Is this embassy or market?! There were around 300+ people there!! The queue were divided for mens and ladies. Don't go to the wrong gate. For passport renewal go to the 1st gate (can ask the security once you go inside embassy). I went to the wrong gate but luckily haven't queue anything at the wrong gate.
The queue was inside embassy but there's no air-con. Sweat so much while queuing 😑😑 While queuing, I found it a bit chaos. Because no staff (maybe also official opening time is 9 AM), so everyone just follow the crowd, then only found out that a lot of them queuing to get LTSP (Surat Laksana Pengganti Paspor). People queuing for LTSP were different. These queue who looked like python snake was just for change/renewal passport.
The annoying part while queuing was the Indonesian culture who like to cut the queue & didn't want to queue was still there.😔😔 I already queuing for so long and there's still these lady pretend stupid as nothing happen just came & cut the queuing and stand in front. 💩💩💩
After 9 AM, the embassy staff came and make announcement (with microphone, better listen because his information was useful). That guy said that today after submitting the document, can go directly to to photo taking. YES!!! No need to go so many times. So he said please queue in order.
And you know what, these humans which around 300 plus people, the embassy staff only 3 people!! *CRYYYYYY* I queued with the super hot environment (kinda like sauna) until 2 hours (just to submit only 3 pieces docs!) 😭😭😭
After finished checking document, I still need to queue again to get the number for photo taking. To get the number the queue not so long (only 1 staff attend you).
Document need to bring for passport renewal :
1. Photo copy of front & back of the passport
2. Photo copy of employment pass
Note : Behind the photo copy of front/back of the passport, write your full name, complete address at Malaysia & phone number at Malaysia. And below that, write again your complete address at Indonesia & your phone number at Indonesia.
Since I scared my document not enough, I also bring along my marriage certificate, my husband IC, birth certificate, my parents marriage certificate until Kartu Keluarga 😅😅. But all those document didn't needed. But better prepare then regret. So lazy need to queue like this again. And if you haven't photostat, you can do it inside, its free 👏👏👏
After finishing sauna outside, I went inside while waiting for photo taking (already 10.40 AM). After I went in, still have a lot of empty seats & its air-con, so I decided to wait inside. Its so tiring 2 hours sauna-ing outside.
Inside there's 24 counters, but not all doing passport renewal. My number was 200 something when I heard the number just reach 90. Then I found out the number wasn't in order. Suddenly I heard number 300 already been called. Want to leave also scare later I missed the number 😓😓
I waited impatiently for almost 2 hours then around 12.15 PM, they called my number (FINALLY!!). Luckily my number was called 1st, the number called after mine need to queue again behind the counter.
After I sit down, the staff name Jenny asking where I worked, before I worked previously before KL (she saw my passport issuing place was at Singapore), etc. I don't know whether the staff was being kepo or its part of the interview? 😅😅😅
After that she took photo of me and she said this coming Friday I can come and collect my new passport. Yes! I asked her can I come late, like after Hari Raya because I need to work this Friday. She said yes, can. She said maximal time 1 month from today date. Later on, just come to counter 28 & 29 and can come anytime.
I got my timing this Friday morning 11 AM to take my new passport. Oh yes, don't loose your receipt from the staff . Its for us to take the new passport.
Price : RM 102 for 48 pages passport. I asked the staff why in front (while I sauna, there was a paper place on board) mention the price only RM 85? She said its not include IT price, for bio metric passport. Dunno when I collect the passport, while I really get the e-passport?
And the new passport expired will follow today date, means my new passport will expired June 2021 😓. I wasted 9 months. But its OK, for the sake to prevent trouble *cheering myself*
12.30 PM : finally finish doing everything. In total spent 4 hours. Not too bad, I saw from few blog there are people queue since 8 AM and just finish 6 PM plus. And just much faster than what I expected (will be 1 month process for renewal).
After that I starving (I'm non moeslem & I'm not fasting), so I wanted to go to the canteen because my friend said the Soto Betawi there was very nice. But fount out its closed because fasting month 😭😭. Wanted to go toilet but no water (oh my!). Finally wanted to go to shopping mall. Once outside, a lot of taxi, wanted to go Ampang Park LRT but they charged me RM 10 (without meter). Because starving then I just agreed, as long as I go out ASAP.
So this is the flow :
8.30 AM : arrive, queue to check document
10.30 AM : finish checking document
10.40 AM : finish queue to get number for photo taking
12.15 PM : got called for photo taking
12.30 PM : FINISH
I admit the document needed at Indonesian embassy KL is so less. Comparing when I made my renewal passport at Singapore which need my birth certificate, parents marriage certificate, ID photostat, etc. At KL much less. Maybe because too many people? If too many documents, it will take forever to finish 😂😂
Hopefully in the next 5 years, the passport renewal system at KL will be change. Not like now. I hope that I don't need to renew my passport here. HAHAHAHAHA. 😂😂😂
I will update again the process after I get my new passport.

ReplyDeletehi , boleh tahu tidak kalau kedutaan besar indonesia di kuala lumpur bisa issue e-passport? atau regular passport saja? thanks ya!
ReplyDeleteHi, sorry ya baru bales.
DeleteDulu pas saya buat staff KBRI KL-nya janjiinnya paspor baru saya bakalan e-passport, ternyata pas jadi enggak (masih model lama). Mungkin kamu bisa coba tanyain dulu ke KBRI udah bisa e-passport apa belum krn saya buatnya taon 2016 (mungkin sekarang udah berubah).
Semoga membantu!
